Everything in BLKBOX.

Airspace, certs, insurance and the client's paperwork. Cleared, current and on one shareable Operator Passport. You fly. BLKBOX keeps the record.

Aircrew JacketEvery pilot

Quals, currency and hours for every pilot.

Each person on the crew has an Aircrew Jacket: the record an aircrew training unit keeps on every pilot, kept current for you.

  • Onboarding checklistPhone, portrait, Part 107 certificate number and date certified, a copy of the certificate, latest recurrent training and its completion certificate, ratings, and military service. Visual observers get a shorter list without the FAA items.
  • Currency worked out for youRecurrent training runs to the end of the 24th calendar month after completion (14 CFR 107.65), and night privileges follow it. Every dated item flags at 60 days, again at 30, and when it lapses.
  • Certificate copiesFront and back of each certificate, license and training record, kept as a gallery on the Jacket. Only the person and the operator’s owner can open them.
  • LogbookLog each flight to a client, project and visit picked from lists. Hours roll up to the pilot, the aircraft, the client and the project.
  • RatingsPick from a standard list or add your own. Anything added goes on the operator’s list for the whole crew.
  • PortraitsEach person’s photo shows wherever they appear: crew lists, missions and passports.
CrewOwners, pilots, observers

Bring the whole crew.

Owners invite their pilots and observers. Each signs in with their own Google account and works through the same checklist.

  • RolesOwners see and edit everything. Pilots keep their own record, log flights and maintenance, and plan missions. Visual observers keep their record and see the rest.
  • Crew without a sign-inAdd a visual observer, or a pilot who won’t use the app themselves. They still appear on missions, passports and project records, and the owner keeps their Jacket. Invite them later and they take over the same record.
  • Onboarding progressSee who has finished their checklist on the crew list, in Flight Ops and in the action queue.
  • Who takes a seatEvery remote pilot takes a pilot seat, whether or not they sign in. Visual observers are the only crew who don’t.
FleetAircraft and kit

Aircraft, payloads, kit and maintenance.

The equipment list clients ask for, and the maintenance record behind it.

  • Aircraft and payloadsManufacturer, model, FAA registration and its expiry, Remote ID and Blue UAS status for each airframe. Payloads make up the equipment list on passports.
  • AccessoriesControllers, batteries, chargers, lenses, filters, base stations, RTK stations, monitors, tethers and cases, with serial, quantity and status. Each travels with an airframe or sits in shared kit.
  • Maintenance logDate, type, work performed, who did it, cost, and the airframe hours at the time, filled in from the logbook. Set the aircraft’s status after the work.
  • Next service dueDue dates flag at 60 and 30 days in Flight Ops. A mission planned after a lapsed due date is blocked until the work is logged.
DocumentsInsurance and paperwork

Insurance and paperwork, filed where it’s needed.

  • Policies and COIsEach policy with its limits and dates, and every certificate of insurance with the client it names as additional insured.
  • Filed to the jobFile a document to a client, a project or a single mission. Each one lists its documents and why each is there: filed to it, the COI naming the client, what the client requires, the aircraft’s registration and maintenance records, and the crew’s certificates.
  • Client requirementsRecord what each client asks for, such as additional insured wording, Blue UAS airframes and required documents. Every job for that client is checked against it.
  • Expiry trackingEvery dated document flags at 60 and 30 days and when it lapses, in the app and on any passport that shows it.
Clients & projectsRecurring jobs

Clients, recurring projects and every visit.

Most recurring aerial work is weekly: progress flights for a project manager, leadership or an insurer. Projects are built for it.

  • ClientsContacts, address and requirements for each client. Flights logged to a client without a project still count toward its hours.
  • Projects on a scheduleSingle visit, weekly, every two weeks or monthly, with a time window and deliverables per visit. Visits are created from the schedule, and each is a mission with its own readiness check.
  • Several sites per projectA project can cover more than one location. Each site keeps its own address, map position and airspace.
  • Deliverable linksAttach links per visit and per project: Google Drive, Dropbox, Frame.io and the like. BLKBOX keeps the links, not the files.
Sites & airspaceOn the map

Drop a pin. Read the airspace.

Find a site on the map and BLKBOX reads the FAA’s own airspace data at that spot: the same data behind the UAS facility maps and sectional charts.

  • Find it on the mapType an address or a place and pick it. Street, city, state and ZIP fill in, a satellite map opens with a pin you can drag, and the site keeps its exact position.
  • Airspace class at the pinControlled airspace counts when its floor reaches below 400 ft above the ground at that spot, so a Class B or C shelf is judged against the real ground elevation.
  • Authorization pathNo authorization needed, LAANC, LAANC with further coordination, or a DroneZone request, with the airport and the facility map grid ceiling. Restricted and prohibited areas are flagged.
  • Drawn on the mapThe LAANC grid, colored by ceiling, and the surface-area boundaries around the site. Each site records where its airspace came from and when it was read.

It is a chart read, not a clearance. The pilot still checks LAANC, NOTAMs and TFRs before the flight.

MissionsReadiness

Every mission checked on its own date.

A mission shows as cleared only when nothing blocks it, and every check runs against the mission date, not today’s.

  1. RPIC current on the mission date
  2. Night privileges, for night work
  3. Aircraft registered and Remote ID compliant
  4. Scheduled maintenance not overdue
  5. Blue UAS airframe, when the job is federal
  6. Insurance in force on the date
  7. Client requirements met
  8. Waivers on file
  9. Airspace authorization status
  10. Day-of TFR and NOTAM check, recorded by the pilot

Owners and pilots plan missions. A mission can be edited by the owner or by its remote pilot in command.

  • Action queueEverything that needs a decision, worst first: lapsed currency, maintenance coming due, missions that aren’t cleared, missing certificates of insurance.
  • Crew currencyEvery pilot against every requirement, with onboarding progress.
  • MissionsWhat is coming up, with each mission’s readiness on its own date.
  • FleetEvery aircraft with its status and next service due.
MilitaryID.me

Built by a Marine. Verified through ID.me.

Owners who are active duty, Guard, Reserve or veterans verify once through ID.me, and the operator gets the 30% military rate when billing starts. Crew can verify their service too. ID.me verification switches on during the beta.
